NFL Draft Player Profile: Will Holden Of Vanderbilt
I dont know if you guys are aware but this website is actually called Barstool SPORTS. Let’s dive into some football talk.
According to Will Holden’s player bio, the former Commodore left tackle “aspires to be an FBI agent” and his father is in the Navy. According to me, he’s the most underrated offensive linemen in the 2017 draft class.
Standing at 6’7″ and 311 pounds, Holden is the length and strength bookend in this draft. Despite playing 35 games over the last three years for an SEC program, he’s still being overlooked in a “weak draft class” for offensive linemen.
As a participant at both the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl, he was shuffled up and down the offensive line. While I’m not usually an advocate of 6’7″ interior offensive linemen, Holden did enough at both events to prove that he can stick somewhere on the line, even if it’s not as a blindside protector. If he’s a right tackle long-term, he’s a 10-year starter.
He has good feet, avoids waist-bending in pass protection, and played against a strong level of competition in his three years of significant playing time. Immediately, he can play in both a zone or man scheme.
On down blocks, Holden is the definition of a bully and a finisher. He’s a nasty dude. In a league where the price of a right tackle is going up, Holden should be a coveted dancing bear.
The Green Cove Springs, Florida, native could be labeled as a poor man’s Anthony Castonzo. With an anchor like his, he might even be a rich man’s Anthony Castonzo.
If he needs to kick inside short-term, the giant has a puncher’s chance of succeeding because he avoids catching defensive linemen. With all that taken into consideration, Holden should be a draft week riser who cements himself as a second-round lineman and a plug-and-play asset.
